Mission Statement of the Colorado River 100
Host one of the largest paddling events in the state of Texas, bringing together recreational and competitive paddlers in an exciting venue, while raising environmental awareness of the water and lands of the lower Colorado River.

All racers must sign a waiver at packet pick prior to starting the event.
An $6 USCA insurance fee will be collected at packet pick prior to starting the event.

CR100 Refund policy in the event of flood.
1. 100% of entry fee refunded, up to July 31st
1. 75% of entry refunded, Aug 1st to Aug 15th
2. 50% of entry & CR100 hat refunded, August 15th to August 28th
3. After Aug 28th Racers have the option of rolling their entry to next years race or donating there entry fee to fund the next years race. Those racers who roll or donate there entry fee will also get a race hat.

The CR100 has many expenses prior to the race that are paid for by early race entries. The process of running this race starts 9 months before race day. The race would not be able to continue as an annual event if 100% of the entry fees were refunded in the event of a flood. We appreciate your understanding in this matter. It is our sincere hope to put on the safest and best CR100 event possible. Please stay posted to the CR100 forum for the most up to date race information.

ates Canoe Association sanctioned event. All paddlers will need to purchase one day coverage at race
check in for $6.  All racers must sign a waiver at packet pick prior to starting the event.

Race Course Description
The race will be staged on the Colorado river. The race will begin in Bastrop at Fisherman’s Park and finish 100 miles down river at Howell Canoe Livery in Columbus. The river is free-flowing and virtually hazard-free, with the exception of the occasional boulder or gravel bar. Good water navigation skills will be an advantage. With low water, some shoal areas exist. However, they are typically short and should present no problem. The water quality is generally clean and clear except following heavy rains, which stir up the red sand resulting in muddy water. With a strong southerly wind, forward progress may be slowed. There are no dam portages on this portion of river. The longest stretch of river without access will be 34 miles.

Coast Guard approved PFD for each person in boat (personal floatation device)
2 Chemical lights, 12 hour type, fixed to bow and stern of boat for night travel (also called glow sticks or cylum)
Space Blanket
Rain jacket (your choice, a garbage bag will also be sufficient)
Method of carrying at least 1/2 gallon of fluid per person at all times
1 whistle per boat
First Aid Kit (no specifics)
Minimum of 1 head light or bow light

Mandatory Check Points
There will be 2 mandatory check points for all classes. The first will be at the 95 bridge boat ramp in Smithville 25 miles from the start. The second will be at the Bus 71 bridge boat ramp in La Grange 62 miles from the start. At least one participant must exit the boat and check in at the predetermined official check point. These check points are mandatory and are required to monitor the progress of the event. They will be managed by the event staff. Failure to check in at these points will result in disqualification, no exceptions.

Night Travel
There will be no dark zones. This race will be continuous through the night. Either a head lamp or bow light is required. Bow and stern chemical light must be lit and on at dusk.  Although there are no required dark zones a paddler may pull over and rest as needed with respect to the cut-off times. Although the river banks are private property the multiple sand bars, and parks will be available for the tired paddler. Beware of river critters.

Cut-Off Times
This event has a 32 hour time limit for all paddlers in the adventure class. In order for a paddler in the adventure class to finish this event in under 32 hours they must maintain continuous forward motion at a minimum average of approximately 3.1 mph for 32 hours. Paddlers in the competitor class will have a 32 hour time limit. Each mandatory check point will represent a cut-off time. Failure to reach these checkpoints by the required cut-off time will result in a dnf status. If a paddler chooses to continue after the designated cut-off time they will do so at their own risk, without the support of the event staff.

Race Support
Each participant is allowed unlimited race support and is responsible for their own support. Any public access points on the river may be used for this purpose. Support is defined as any assistance given to the participant outside of substituting boats or paddlers. This includes, but is not limited to, water and food hand offs, disposal of trash and or hugs and kisses from loved ones. For those wanting to travel without race support, they may self support by using any one of the several river parks that line the race course. Potable water will be available at these locations. Pre-scouting the race course and local river parks is strongly recommended. The organizers of the race will not provide any outside support during the race other than emergency medical assistance.

Class Age Restrictions
Due to the extreme nature of this event, strict age limitations will be enforced. Any solo participant must be at least 18 years of age. Any tandem participants must be at least 14 years of age and travel with an adult at all times. No exceptions.

Adventure Class

This class is for the paddler who is in it for the challenge and adventure. If you are an adventure racer or recreational paddler than this is the class for you. The adventure class will have an adventure race style to it in that the competitors will not only be paddling, but looking for 10-15 check points along the way. These check points will be spread along the entire course and be represented as orienteering flags. Upon reaching one of these check points the racer will need to stamp their passport with the hole punch attached to the check point flag. This will verify that they actually visited the check point. The check points will be on the river and be visible from the river. Check points will not require hiking and acquiring the CP's should minimally affect the paddlers overall finishing time. A map will be distributed at the pre-race meeting designating the location of each check point. Basic map skills will be helpful but not required. Each participant will be ranked by finish time plus any time penalties for missed CP's. That means that the fastest time or fastest boat may not win the class if a checkpoint is missed along the way. For example, if two paddlers finish the adventure challenge with the same time but paddler (a) got 11 CP’s while paddler (b) got 12 CP’s, paddler (b) with the most checkpoints will be ranked first, as paddler (a) with 11 CP's will have a one hour time penalty.   Although the adventure class competitors are not eligible for cash awards, the top 3 finishers in each subclass will be recognized at the awards ceremony for their accomplishments.

There will be a one hour time penalty for each missed CP.
Lost passports will result in a 12 hour time penalty.

Any man or woman powered boat may race in the adventure class, this includes, but is not limited to, aluminum, plastic, abs or fiberglass canoes, touring kayaks, sea kayaks and sit on tops.

Competitor Class
This Class is geared toward the competitive marathon canoe racer. Only two checkpoints will be required for the competitor class. These check points are mandatory and are required to monitor the progress of the event. These check points will be managed by the event staff. Entry into this class will make you eligible for cash awards given to the top three finishers in each subclass. They will also be recognized at the awards ceremony for their accomplishment.

Cash Award Distribution (Competitor Class only)
$25 of each entry fee collected will be totaled for that subclass and will be distributed between 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. That means the more people entered in your subclass, the more cash that will be distributed in that subclass to the top 3.

Awards Ceremony and Post Race Party
The awards ceremony will start at 12pm near the finish line at Howell Canoe Livery in Columbus. You must be present to be eligible for gift drawings. Cash and non-cash awards will also be distributed at the post-race ceremony. The presence of award recipients at the ceremony is highly encouraged.

Safety on the Course
Local emergency medical officials will be notified of the event. River rangers will patrol the waters of the course as necessary. A paramedic will either be on site or readily available within a reasonable amount of time during the event. Emergency medical numbers will be given to all participants. Cell phones are recommended. Two mandatory check points will be established, with a mandatory check in and out. Failure to comply will result in disqualification. USCA rules and regulations must be followed at all times. A Mandatory safety equipment list will be issued. Random required gear checks may take place during the event. Each participant must have a coast guard approved type I, II, III or V Personal Floatation Device (PFD) in his/her possession while on the water. Each boat must have at least one whistle while on the water.

Limited Field
For the preservation of this natural resource and to limit the effects on the river environment a 150 boat limit will be enforced. Slots will be filled on a first come first serve bases.

DNF on the Course
If for any reason you disqualify yourself from the event, you must notify a race official immediately. If you do not notify the proper authorities you will be banned from any future running of the Colorado River 100 and may be held responsible for the cost of a search and rescue.

Unsportsmanlike like conduct
Unsportsmanlike like conduct will not be tolerated on the course. Possible disqualification will be the result, to be determined by race officials.

Litter on the Course This event will have a zero tolerance for purposeful littering on the course. Possible disqualification will be the result, to be determined by race officials.

The organizers of this event reserve the right to revise any prior rules or regulations as a result of conflict, hazard or unforeseen incident.
